Who I work with

Music makers, writers, and artists of all kinds, and at all levels. I’ve helped creatives undertake recordings, books, events, curriculum, and entrepreneurial endeavors—often, for their first time doing so. If you have a project that matters to you and you’re not sure how to get it done, we should talk.

How it works

We start with a free 30-minute consultation — just a conversation about your project, where you are, and where you want to be. From there, coaching engagements typically run three or six months. Each month includes two one-hour calls and open email access throughout — so you have a thinking partner whenever you need one. Engagements are customized to your project and your pace. We’ll figure out together what you need.

Why work with me?

In my career, I’ve helped thousands of creatives finish their projects, often preparing them for a commercial market. As a book editor and publisher, I’ve managed the publication of hundreds of books, mostly in my capacity as editor in chief of Berklee Press during a nearly 30-year tenure there. I’ve taught my Project Management for Musicians course to thousands of musicians and music industry professionals. I’m not just a coach — I’m a working creative myself. I’ve authored or co-created more than seven books, released two albums of original songs, and created two online courses. As founder of Orchard Fire Publishing, I’ve helped independent authors bring their books to life on their own terms. And I founded the Gloucester Songwriters Circle, now in its fourth year, bringing together a thriving community of local musicians and songwriters. I know what it takes to start something, push through the hard middle, and get it done. Let me help you do the same.

  • “He Helped Me Find My Voice”

Jonathan was my first editor and was such a gift to me as an author. He kept me on task and inspired me to write well. He has a hawk eye and great ideas. I knew I could always count on his honest reaction and input. He isn’t out to be liked, he’s out to bring out the best in his authors. He so smart and experienced and he helped me find my voice, become a writer and write my first book now used in colleges across the world and then my second book that was featured on NPR’s TEDradio hour and the Wall Street Journal. I owe so much to this man and can’t recommend him enough.
